Know the Warning Signs

5 Signs Your VT Pump Needs an Overhaul

Falling Discharge Pressure or Flow

A drop of 10% or more from your commissioning baseline usually means bowl clearances or wear rings have eroded beyond their working tolerance the pump is now recirculating water internally instead of pushing it out.

Increased Vibration or Noise

Grinding, knocking, or a hum beyond the pump's normal operating sound is rarely cosmetic. It's most often shaft misalignment, bearing wear, or an out-of-balance impeller all of which get more expensive to fix the longer they run.

Rising Power Consumption

If the motor is drawing more current for the same output, something inside is creating extra mechanical resistance often a sign of internal wear or a developing misalignment.

Frequent Bearing or Seal Failures

Replacing the same component every few months isn't bad luck it's usually a symptom of a root cause elsewhere (misalignment, wrong material grade, or housing wear) that a like-for-like part swap won't fix.

Visible Corrosion or Pitting at Column Joints

Surface corrosion left unaddressed progresses to structural weakness. Catching it early is a cleaning-and-inspection job; catching it late can mean a full column replacement.

Understanding Pump Material Grades

What the material codes on your pump's drawing actually mean and where each one is typically used.

GradeDescriptionTypical Use
CA6NMMartensitic stainless steel with good strength and cavitation resistanceHigh-duty impellers and wear rings
CA15Cast martensitic stainless steel, general corrosion resistancePump casings and general wetted components
CF8MAustenitic stainless steel (316 equivalent)Corrosive water and chemical-adjacent applications
BrLTB2Leaded tin bronzeWear rings and bushings — strong galling resistance against steel shafts
CD4MCUDuplex stainless steel, higher strength and corrosion resistance than CF8MHigh-wear, high-corrosion duty
AlBr (Aluminium Bronze)High-strength copper alloyHigh-wear components, brackish or aggressive water
PB (Phosphor Bronze)Copper-tin alloy with excellent wear propertiesBearings and bushings
C.I. (Cast Iron)Standard cast ironNon-critical structural and lower-duty components
Making a Decision

OEM Service vs. an Independent Specialist

Both have their place. Here's what's genuinely different about working with an independent shop like ours.

Typical OEM Service Center

  • Scheduling tied to regional service calendars
  • Limited support once a model is discontinued
  • Standard parts pricing, less room for negotiation
  • Usually services their own brand only

Incoses Engineering

  • Local team, faster turnaround on diagnosis & repair
  • Reverse engineering keeps legacy pumps running with no OEM drawing needed
  • Cost-effective repair without compromising standard tolerances
  • Services all major brands — KBL, Wilo, Jyoti, Xylem, CRI, Flowmore, WPIL and more
  • Every repair backed by a 1-year warranty
